A day after Saudi Arabia executed forty-seven Shiite, protesters in Iran have damaged the Saudi Embassy in Tehran.
Protesters in Iran, a predominantly Shiite nation attacked the embassy setting fires and throwing papers from the roof, Iranian media reported.
According to ISNA News Agency ,the country’s top police official, Gen. Hossein Sajedinia, rushed to the scene and police worked to disperse the crowd outraged by the execution of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, a prominent Shiite leader.
Shiite leaders in Iran and other countries across the Middle East swiftly condemned Riyadh execution of Sheikh Nimr and 46 others , hinting at sectarian backlash.
Saudi Arabia insist the executions were part of a justified war on terrorism, and not a ploy to exterminate Shiite minority.
Majority of Saudi Arabians are Sunnis.
Sheikh Nimr was a vocal supporter of the mass anti-government protests that erupted in Eastern Province in 2011, where a Shia majority have long complained of marginalization.
