President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday replaced service chiefs of the Armed Forces with immediate effect.
Their removal, which came a day after the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, was in exercise of the constitutional powers conferred on the President, who is also the Commander- in-Chief of the Armed Forces. The announcement of the sack followed an early morning meeting Jonathan held with the service chiefs at the Presidential Villa.
A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, named former Chief of Air Staff, Marshal Alex Badeh as the new Chief of Defence Staff.
He takes over from Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim. Also, Maj.-Gen. Kenneth Tobiah Jacob Minimah takes over from Lt.-Gen. Azubike Ihejirika as Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin takes the mantle of leadership from Vice-Admiral Dele Joseph Ezeoba as Chief of Naval Staff; while Air Vice- Marshal Adesola Nunayon Amosu takes over from Air Marshal Badeh as Chief of Air Staff. Badeh was born on January 10, 1957 and joined the Air Force as a member of the Nigerian Defence Academy’s 21 Regular Course.
The new CAS, Minimah, was born on July 27, 1959 and joined the Army as a member of the Nigerian Defence Academy’s 25 Regular Course. Until his new appointment, he was the Commander of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps, Jaji.
The new Chief of Naval Staff, Jibrin, was born on September 16, 1959 and joined the Navy as a member of the Nigerian Defence Academy’s 24 Regular Course.
He was the Director of Training at Defence Headquarters before his new appointment. Amosu, the new Chief of Air Staff and immediate past Commander of the Presidential Air Fleet, was born on August 1, 1958 and joined the Nigeria Air Force as a member of the Nigerian Defence Academy’s 25 Regular Course.
Until his new appointment, He was the Air Officer Commanding, Tactical Air Command, Makurdi.
