The police in Enugu State on Monday arrested three armed robbery suspects, including a woman. The Police Public Relations Officer for the state, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, said the suspects usually operated within Liberation Road in the Awkunanaw area of the state and environs, using tricycle, popularly called Keke NAPEP. Amaraizu said police officers pursued them as they fired sporadically into the air in a bid to scare people. He said, “Luck ran out on the hoodlums. The lady among them was arrested, which later led to the arrest of the other two persons who were in their hiding place.” The PPRO said a loaded locally made gun and a tricycle were recovered from the suspects. “They are helping the police in their investigations,” he said.
In a related development, the police have commenced investigation at Mbanugo in Coal Camp area of the state, where a bus driver of one of MTN companies based in Enugu was shot dead by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums and a keke napep driver identified as ‘Praise’ was also killed. Amaraizu said the incident left two persons with severe injuries. A resident in the area said the hoodlums had trailed the driver and some occupants suspected to be conveying some goods and undisclosed amount of money. “On getting to Mbanugo, around Coal Camp, they struck and injured two, leaving the driver dead,” said the resident. Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited in a mortuary within the area. The state police command also advised members of the public to apply for security whenever they want to convey valuables or huge sums of money from one location to another.
