Phil Foden has reportedly reached an agreement in principle to sign a new four-year contract with Manchester City.
With his current deal nearing its final year, the midfielder is expected to extend his stay at the club until 2030, with an additional one-year extension option included in the agreement.
Foden, who rose through City’s academy and made his senior debut at 17 in 2017, has enjoyed remarkable success with the club, winning multiple trophies including six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, two FA Cups, and five Carabao Cups.
This season, the 25-year-old has recorded 10 goals and five assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.
He previously had a standout 2023/24 campaign, earning both Premier League Player of the Season and PFA Players’ Player of the Year awards. However, his form has dipped since then, with fewer goal contributions and reduced playing time under manager Pep Guardiola.
Foden has also struggled to maintain a regular starting spot, with his last goal for the club coming in December.
Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel has raised concerns about his performances at the international level ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
Speaking on the matter, Tuchel said:
“He tried everything. I would say he was excellent in camp but, yeah, he struggles to show it on the pitch.
“Obviously, he didn’t have a lot of minutes for City recently, then he came to camp with the brightest smile and was so good in training.
“And I thought he will just surprise us and will play with the same verve and excitement but, yeah, he struggles to have the full impact.”
