Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, widely known as Mr. P from the iconic pop duo P-Square, recently moved fans to tears in an emotional video shared on his social media page. In the clip, the singer wept while recounting a painful and highly turbulent chapter of his life involving his then-girlfriend, Lola Omotayo, and his family members.
Reflecting on a time when he was 27 years old, Okoye revealed how the news of Lola’s pregnancy created a massive rift between him, his twin brother Paul, and their older brother and manager, Jude Okoye.
The Unexpected Soundcity Awards Announcement
Anticipating that gossip blogs and external sources might leak the news of the pregnancy, Peter decided to take control of the narrative. He chose a major platform to make the announcement himself: the Soundcity Awards, where P-Square had just received a prestigious accolade.
According to Peter, after dedicating the award to God, their loyal fanbase, and their supporters, he took a bold step and publicly dedicated it to the mother of his unborn child. What was meant to be a proud moment of celebration quickly devolved into a bitter family feud behind the scenes.
Allegations of Forged Emails and Demands for Abortion
The public dedication sparked immediate fury from his brothers. Peter recalled that immediately after his speech, Paul and Jude stormed out of the venue, furious that the announcement would derail their booming music career.
According to Peter, the backlash went far beyond verbal anger. He stated:
- His brothers vehemently insisted that Lola undergo an abortion.
- They claimed that public knowledge of the pregnancy would ruin the P-Square brand.
- They allegedly went as far as forging an email to frame Lola, falsely claiming that the child did not belong to Peter and accusing her of trying to trap him.
Despite the intense opposition and the painful allegations leveled against his partner, Peter stood by Lola. The couple eventually married in 2013 and now share two children, though the deep scars of the family’s past interference continue to linger publicly.
