Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has returned to public activities after taking a brief medical break over the weekend.
Obi had earlier announced via his official X (formerly Twitter) account that he fell ill while attending a tourism event in Enugu on Friday. Following his doctor’s advice, he suspended all official engagements within and outside the country for the weekend.
Resuming on Monday, Obi fulfilled a promise to visit an SME he came across during his tours. Expressing gratitude, he said:
“Let me begin by thanking everyone who wished me well during my short time away from engagements on the doctor’s advice. I resumed my engagements yesterday, and I started by visiting an SME business owned by someone I met during my activities, and I was truly delighted to listen to the owner.”
He visited Maison de Helen (MDH), a Nigerian luxury fashion brand established in 1990 by designer Helen Unuane, who inherited the craft from her mother and has since passed it down to her daughter, Elsie Unuane.
Obi praised MDH as “more than a textile house; it is living proof of how Nigerian creativity, heritage, and enterprise can resonate on the global stage.”
Stressing the vital role of SMEs in national development, Obi highlighted that MDH currently employs more than 50 young Nigerians, both directly and indirectly. He emphasized that with proper government support and investment, enterprises like MDH could expand further, create more jobs, and make a stronger contribution to the nation’s economy.
