Presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has issued a powerful call to action, urging Nigerian youth to rise above prevailing frustrations and actively prepare to steer the nation towards transformation. Speaking at Madonna University, Okija Campus, during the NextGen Mentorship and Leadership Initiative themed “Beyond Now: Raising the Next Generation of Leaders,” Obi underscored that Nigeria’s trajectory hinges on the emergence of leaders embodying integrity, competence, and compassion.

A Clarion Call for Responsible Leadership

Addressing students who voiced concerns over pervasive corruption, high unemployment rates, and limited opportunities for young people, Obi acknowledged their growing despair. However, he implored them not to succumb to hopelessness, asserting that the country’s multifaceted challenges are surmountable only through a new generation of leaders committed to service, accountability, and the collective good.

“Leadership is the greatest determinant of a nation’s progress,” Obi stated, emphasizing the critical attributes required. “A true leader must possess character, competence, capacity, and compassion, and be willing to make sacrifices for the people.” He elaborated that Nigeria’s future prosperity is contingent upon leaders who prioritize the protection of lives, strategic investment in education, robust job creation, and the strengthening of institutions capable of fostering sustainable development.
