Controversial street-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has regained his freedom after Fuji music legend Saheed Osupa officially dropped a cyberstalking and defamation lawsuit against him.
The legal dispute was resolved on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, after Osupa’s legal team submitted a formal notice of withdrawal at the Upper Area Court 1 in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Ahmed Opalekunde, Osupa’s lawyer, confirmed to The PUNCH that the decision came at the directive of his client, following multiple pleas and interventions from respected figures within the music industry and other influential Nigerians.
The case stemmed from a petition Osupa had earlier filed, accusing Portable of cyberstalking, defamation, criminal intimidation, and inciting public unrest. The allegations were tied to a live Instagram session on March 19, during which Portable made derogatory remarks about the Fuji icon.
In the now-viral video, Portable was quoted saying:
“Saheed Osupa, you are big for nothing. If you can’t embrace me, I will drag you. You sing Fuji while I sing hip hop. I used a line from your music just like I took three verses from Pasuma, but Pasuma didn’t report me. Stay away if you can’t treat me like your own, the way Pasuma did.”
Osupa considered the statements harmful to his image and claimed they triggered public backlash and ridicule, disrupting public peace.
The charges against Portable reportedly violated sections of the Penal Code, the Cybercrimes Act of 2015, and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2020.
Portable had been arraigned a day earlier, on Monday, before Chief Magistrate Sunday Adeniyi at the Kwara State High Court. He was granted bail set at ₦1 million, with two sureties—one required to be a PMAN (Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria) chairman and the other a property owner within the GRA under the court’s jurisdiction.
With Osupa choosing an out-of-court resolution, the case has now been officially dismissed.
In the withdrawal notice submitted to the court, Osupa’s legal team requested that the court caution Portable against making any future defamatory statements or engaging in behavior that could damage Osupa’s reputation or business interests.
The letter stated:
“Our client has instructed us to inform the court that prominent figures in the music industry and other influential personalities have intervened and appealed to him to drop the case for the sake of public peace.
“In line with our client’s directive, we hereby request that the court dismiss the case against the defendant, as the matter has been amicably resolved.
“We also respectfully ask the court to formally warn the defendant to refrain from making any further comments, statements, or taking actions that could damage the image or businesses of our client.”
