On Sunday, October 9, some parts of the Balogun market caught fire, in what has now become a regular occurrence. Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Agency, confirmed the incident. Although no one was killed in the fire, state officials say clothing materials stored in the shop were destroyed.

A passer-by, who wishes to remain anonymous, captured video of a building in Balogun Market that housed various businesses on fire.
He said in the video:

“Today is October 9, 2022. This is 11:54 am. Happening right now at Balogun Market. Let the necessary authorities be aware. This is serious.”

According to PM News, no personnel from the Lagos Fire Service or the rescue team were seen on the ground as of the time this report was filed. Eyewitnesses told the Vanguard newspaper that the fire started in one of the market buildings on Martins Street in Lagos. The cause of the inferno, which was unknown at the time of publication, had spread to other apartments. The Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, and other responders have rushed to the scene to put out the fire.
