Prominent Nigerian social media critic and activist Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has staged a protest at the Oyo State Government House. He called on Governor Seyi Makinde to take swift and decisive action to rescue recently abducted schoolchildren in the state.
Expressing grave concern over the safety of the young victims, the activist warned that any delay by the state government could lead to disastrous outcomes, including the prolonged captivity or forced marriages of the children.
‘We Are Ready to Enter the Bush’ — VeryDarkMan Issues Bold Offer
During his demonstration, VeryDarkMan urged Governor Makinde not to wait for a “perfect time” to launch a rescue operation. He emphasized that local citizens are prepared to support security forces directly, even if it entails significant risks.
“We’re ready to enter the bush with you today or tomorrow, and we know there’ll be collateral damage and we’re ready for it,” the critic declared, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
He further argued that hesitation by the authorities only emboldens criminal elements. According to his analysis of banditry patterns in the region, failing to retaliate forcefully allows criminals to project dominance, which could eventually lead to them imposing illegal levies on Oyo State farmers.
A Polarized Public Response to VDM’s Call
The activist’s dramatic appeal has triggered a wave of reactions across various social media platforms, dividing public opinion on the best approach to handling hostage situations:
- Proponents of Direct Action: Many citizens agreed with VeryDarkMan, expressing frustration over persistent insecurity and calling for aggressive state-backed offensives.
- Advocates of Strategic Caution: Conversely, other commentators argued that rushed, untrained civilian involvement in deep-forest rescue missions could lead to heavy casualties and endanger the lives of the hostages.
This development comes amid intensifying national pressure on government officials and security agencies to curb the rising wave of kidnappings and restore peace to affected communities across Nigeria.
