A recent court order remanding prominent activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, to Kuje Prison has ignited a fiery reaction from Nollywood actress and fellow AAC politician, Doris Ogala. Ogala vehemently criticized the decision, asserting that it was a “pre-planned” move and expressing profound disappointment.

Omoyele Sowore’s Legal Saga Deepens

The latest development in Sowore’s ongoing legal challenges saw Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court Abuja on Monday, June 22, mandate his detention at the Kuje Custodial Centre. This ruling followed the revocation of Sowore’s bail last week. The activist is currently facing cybercrime charges, stemming from allegations of referring to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as “a criminal” in a social media post.

During the court proceedings, Justice Umar also dismissed Sowore’s application for the trial judge to recuse himself from the case, despite the activist’s claims of bias. The judge’s short ruling directed Sowore to remain in custody until the hearing and determination of his motion for a stay of the order revoking his bail and the bench warrant. The case has been adjourned to June 24, 2026, for further hearing.

Undeterred by the court’s decision, Omoyele Sowore, speaking outside the courtroom, declared his readiness for incarceration. The controversial human rights activist emphasized his resolve to continue mobilizing the populace, stating that “everything is happening for a good reason” and that someone must “pay the price for the betterment of the country.” His defiant stance underscores his commitment to his cause, even in the face of legal adversity.

Doris Ogala Alleges Political Conspiracy

Nollywood actress and AAC governorship candidate for Abia State in the 2027 elections, Doris Ogala, did not hold back her frustration. Taking to her Instagram page, she shared a series of videos, vehemently condemning the court’s ruling. Ogala insisted that the decision to remand Sowore was orchestrated, proclaiming that “they already planned this.”

In her outspoken reaction, Ogala underscored Sowore’s fearlessness in the face of imprisonment. In another clip shared with her followers, the actress, known for her candidness and who recently made headlines for a public dispute with Pastor Chris Okafor, conveyed further disappointment regarding the judiciary’s action.

Political Undertones and Public Scrutiny

The remand of Omoyele Sowore, a leading opposition figure and presidential aspirant, coupled with the strong reactions from a fellow political candidate like Doris Ogala, adds significant political weight to the legal proceedings. As Nigeria gears up for the 2027 general elections, the treatment of political activists and opposition figures remains a focal point of public discourse and scrutiny, raising questions about justice and political freedom in the country.
