Political activist and author Reno Omokri has publicly challenged singer Peter Okoye, widely known as Mr P of the P-Square music duo, following the resurgence of an old video where the musician campaigned for Peter Obi ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
The viral clip shows Peter Okoye advocating for a generational shift in leadership, urging his fans to support Peter Obi as a younger, fresher alternative to Nigeria’s more experienced politicians. This campaign message, primarily centered on age as a decisive factor, became a significant talking point during the election cycle.
Omokri Debunks Age-Based Campaign Logic
Taking to his X page on October 18, 2026, Reno Omokri directly confronted Okoye’s age-centric argument. Omokri asserted that a careful examination of the numbers actually undermines Okoye’s reasoning regarding Peter Obi’s candidacy.
According to Omokri, Peter Obi was 65 years old at the time, while his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was set to turn 70 the same week Omokri published his post. This put their combined average age at 67.5 years.
In contrast, Omokri pointed out that President Bola Tinubu, at 74, and Vice President Kashim Shettima, at 60, presented an average age of 67 years for their ticket. This calculation, Omokri concluded, demonstrated that, by Peter Okoye’s own age-based metric, the Tinubu-Shettima ticket was numerically younger.
Omokri further expanded the comparison to include the Atiku-Amaechi ticket, noting their combined average age of 70 years, which made them the oldest among the three major tickets at the time of the election.
Governance Records and Lagos Success Story
Beyond the contentious age debate, Reno Omokri shifted his focus to what he described as a significant difference in governance track records. He highlighted the humble beginnings of Peter and Paul Okoye’s music careers, which commenced in cities like Jos and Abuja before their pivotal relocation to Lagos.
Omokri contended that it was in Lagos where the P-Square brothers truly ascended to megastar status, attributing this monumental growth to the robust economic foundation laid by President Tinubu during his tenure as Lagos State governor. Omokri claimed that Tinubu’s leadership more than tripled the state’s Gross Domestic Product.
He specifically cited several key initiatives and projects credited to Tinubu’s administration in Lagos, including the establishment of four millennium secondary schools and the implementation of six independent power projects across the state, all contributing to an environment conducive for such artistic and economic flourishing.
Omokri’s comments have reignited discussions among political observers and social media users, prompting a re-evaluation of the various arguments and narratives that shaped the intensely contested 2023 presidential election.
