Nigerian comedian and veteran actor Okechukwu Onyegbule, widely recognized as Okey Bakassi, has vehemently refuted a viral video circulating online that falsely claimed his wife was seeking a divorce after 15 years. The entertainer described the widely shared content as deeply disturbing and disrespectful, asserting that his marriage remains robust and intact.
Taking to his Instagram page on Monday, Bakassi clarified that he and his wife recently marked their milestone 25th wedding anniversary with celebrations held in Canada. This revelation directly contradicted the spurious claims about marital discord. He further dismissed reports suggesting his wife resides in Canada and works as a nurse, labeling them as entirely false.
Setting the Record Straight
In a direct message to his audience, Bakassi urged his family, friends, and fans to completely disregard the fabricated story. He called on social media users to report the account responsible for propagating these baseless claims on X (formerly Twitter) for violating the platform’s community guidelines.
He expressed his dismay in a post, stating, “It’s so disrespectful and sad that, out of desperation to get views or create viral content, someone will go to the extent of spreading fake news about my very happy family.” He added, “Please, my family, friends and fans, disregard any story that my wife and I are having issues. It’s the work of evil, senseless people. Please help me report the originator’s page for this fake news on X (Twitter) for violating the rules. My family is intact and in God’s hands.”
Bakassi also shared a heartwarming video from their 25th wedding anniversary celebration, providing visual proof of their enduring love and unity. Last week, he had previously commemorated the anniversary by sharing a video collage featuring himself, his wife, and their three children.
Reflecting on their journey together, the comedian recounted how they first met, the period of separation due to their pursuit of higher education, and their eventual reunion. He emphasized that their commitment to each other wasn’t about setting records or proving doubters wrong, but simply about living their lives authentically and reaffirming the right decision they made years ago.
On their 20th wedding anniversary, Bakassi had also openly discussed the various challenges they encountered in their marriage, acknowledging that many had doubted their relationship’s longevity. On that occasion, he publicly celebrated his wife for her years of unwavering love, sacrifice, friendship, and tolerance, qualities that have clearly contributed to their quarter-century union.
