Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed deep concern over the growing hardship in Nigeria, warning that the nation is at serious risk if urgent measures are not taken.
He made these remarks during Dele Momodu’s leadership lecture on Friday, where he emphasized that, given China’s success in lifting 700 million citizens out of poverty, Nigeria should not be struggling with extreme poverty.
Addressing sustainable solutions to hunger across Africa, Obasanjo highlighted the crucial role of education in breaking the cycle of poverty. He also stressed that effective leadership is key to overcoming hardship and deprivation.
Obasanjo underscored the importance of leaders who embody a sense of community and integrity. He maintained that eradicating poverty in Nigeria and Africa at large requires discipline, accountability, and strong governance, noting that without these, the continent risks remaining stagnant in the eyes of the international community.
