The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted claims circulating on social media that corps members’ bank accounts are being upgraded in anticipation of a new ₦70,000 national minimum wage.
The NYSC clarified that no directive has been issued by the relevant authorities regarding the payment of a ₦70,000 minimum wage to corps members or the upgrading of their accounts.
In a statement released on Saturday by Eddy Megwa, the NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, the organization labeled the report as misleading and completely false.
The NYSC urged corps members not to be misled by those spreading false information intended to deceive Nigerians.
“The attention of the National Youth Service Corps management has been drawn to misleading information circulating in the media regarding the payment of a ₦70,000 minimum wage to corps members and the directive to upgrade their accounts. This is an absolute falsehood far from the truth,” the statement read.
“Corps members, parents, and the public should be aware that no directive has been received from the relevant government sector responsible for wage matters.
“It is therefore impossible for the NYSC to issue any information on such matters. Corps members are already familiar with the approved channels and modes of communication within the scheme and should disregard this false directive accordingly.
“The NYSC, through this release, urges corps members to avoid being misled by those seeking to deceive Nigerians.
“Bloggers and social media influencers are also warned against issuing unauthorized statements concerning the management of the National Youth Service Corps.”
