The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has once again increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol this time from ₦865 to ₦992 per litre.

The new price took effect on Sunday, triggering confusion and frustration among motorists nationwide.

Nigerians React to Fresh Fuel Hike

As of press time, NNPCL had not released any official statement explaining the sudden adjustment. However, attendants at several NNPC filling stations confirmed receiving directives to update their pumps to the new rate.

At the NNPC Mega Station along Ogunusi Road in Ojodu Berger, Lagos, workers were seen recalibrating their meters to reflect the ₦992 per litre price tag.

Many customers, caught off guard by the change, expressed outrage and concern over the continuous surge in petrol prices.

Fuel Scarcity Persists Across States

In Ibafo, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, some NNPC outlets still displayed the old price of ₦875 per litre but were not dispensing fuel. Similar scenes were reported across Lagos and Ogun States, where many stations remained shut.

The development has sparked fresh fears of economic strain, as transport fares and commodity prices are expected to rise even further.

Nigerians have since called on the government and NNPCL to clarify the reasons behind the recurring price hikes and to urgently address the lingering fuel supply challenges.
