The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced a planned maintenance shutdown of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) starting Saturday, May 24, 2025.

In a statement issued by Chief Corporate Communications Officer Olufemi Soneye, the company stated that the temporary closure is part of a scheduled maintenance and sustainability review aimed at ensuring the refinery remains in peak operational condition.

“NNPC Ltd wishes to notify the public that PHRC will undergo a planned shutdown for maintenance,” the statement read. “This activity, which begins May 24, 2025, is being carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and other relevant stakeholders to ensure a smooth and transparent process.”

Soneye emphasized NNPCL’s ongoing dedication to sustainable energy practices and assured the public that updates would be provided via the company’s official communication channels.

The Port Harcourt refinery, which resumed operations last year after extensive rehabilitation, remains a key facility in Nigeria’s refining sector. This maintenance is part of NNPCL’s broader plan to safeguard the long-term efficiency and reliability of the country’s refining infrastructure.
