A Nigerian woman based in South Africa has voiced concerns over the treatment of Nigerians in the country, urging the Nigerian government to step in.
In a video message, she claimed that Nigerians have continued to face harassment and attacks while receiving little or no assistance from authorities. She also criticised the Nigerian consulate, alleging that it has remained silent despite the challenges being reported.
According to her, the situation now goes beyond documentation issues, with some Nigerians allegedly being told to leave the country completely.
She also recounted personal experiences, saying her children, who were born in South Africa, have been bullied and told to “go back to their country.”
While acknowledging that some people may consider returning to Nigeria, she questioned how realistic that option is, citing concerns such as economic hardship, electricity problems, and living conditions.
She appealed to the Nigerian government to engage with South African authorities, stressing that if Nigerians are expected to leave, it should not happen under dangerous or hostile circumstances.
