A cartel made up of a yet to be identified Nigerian, along with five Colombians, five Spaniards and a Peruvian, have been arrested in Spain for operating a cocaine laboratory .
Members of the gang were arrested after months of surveillance in various Spanish cities.
Police say this is the first time such a facility similar to those found in Colombia would be discovered in the country.
The ring is suspected of smuggling “signficant quantities” of cocaine mixed with palm kernel meal, a vegetable substance used for animal feed, from South America into Spain, police noted in a statement.
The gang then used chemicals at the secret lab in Nijar, a quiet town of white-walled houses and narrow streets in the southwestern region of Andalucia, to extract the cocaine from the mix.
