A 22-year-old Nigerian woman has alleged that she was raped by a group of men from her own country, police in India’s capital city New Delhi, say.
The lady filed the claim against the men on Saturday at the Tilak Nagar police station.
In a written statement the unidentified lady claimed she was brought to India in April by the men on the pretext of a helping her to find a job in the health sector but was forced into prostitution.
Delhi Commission for Women has intervened in the matter, after the lady visited a nearby doctor to treat injuries she sustained.
The doctor informed the police and a social worker called Ramesh Mathiala.
“The doctor informed me that the woman living in Santgarh area had come for treatment of very serious burn and assault injuries. We talked to her and then DCW’s involvement was requested,” said Matiala.
Mathiala added, “The woman was kept at a rented accommodation in Tilak Nagar. After a few days, the accused started forcing her into flesh trade. When she resisted, the accused beat her up, tortured her and kept her in confinement.”
Deependra Pathak, Joint Commissioner of Police (southwest) who confirmed the case noted that, “the accused have been identified and an arrest will be made soon. We are also trying to ascertain if the group has valid permissions and documents to stay here,”
