The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the redeployment of 1,332 officers from the Delta State Police Command following widespread reactions over the alleged extrajudicial killing of a civilian.
Force Headquarters spokesperson Tony Placid revealed on May 6 that the mass transfer was approved by the police high command.
According to reports, the directive from the Inspector-General of Police was prompted by the controversial death of 28-year-old Oghenermine Mena, alongside accusations of misconduct and unprofessional behavior involving some officers within the command.
Sources familiar with the situation claimed the IGP was displeased with what was described as the “excesses of deviant officers,” leading to a major restructuring across several units and divisions in the state.
The redeployment reportedly includes both senior officers and junior personnel, making it one of the biggest internal police transfers seen in recent years.
