The Federal Fire Service is to embark on a door-to-door enlightenment campaign in Abuja. The campaign is to educate residents on safety measures to be deployed during fire outbreaks. The Assistant
Controller General, Administration and Supply, Federal Fire Service, Ademola Jolaosho, disclosed this in an interview in Abuja.
He said the service was currently focused on enlightenment in business premises like offices and markets, to educate people on precautionary measures against fire outbreak.
“As time goes on, we will extend it to homes because what is obtainable in the office is also obtainable in the home. We need to advice people who engage in unsafe practices in their homes, to be careful so as to guard against fire outbreaks,” he stated.
He said the service was doing its best to ensure that fire-fighting equipment were in good condition, to effectively contain any situation.
According to him, the service had become proactive by adopting an integrated system of managing fire disasters.
Mr. Jolaosho emphasised the importance of including fire safety designs in new buildings, warning that the service would soon start sealing off structures without emergency exits.
