The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) has been praised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for its support in the face of the political impasse in the Niger Republic.
This information was provided in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja by Ajuri Ngelale, the president’s special adviser on media and publicity.
The statement claims that Tinubu made the remarks while hosting President Ali Bongo Ondimba’s special envoy and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Gabon, Hermann Immongault, on Tuesday at the State House in Abuja.
Tinubu pointed out that President Ondimba, who also serves as the Chairman of ECCAS, sent a special message of support and solidarity expressing his entire support for the ECOWAS resolutions on the illegal takeover of power in Niger.
“I value President Bongo’s solidarity and assistance about the situation in Niger. We are trying to avoid making the issue worse. We have well-intentioned individuals who have stepped in,” he remarked.
The statement went on to say that Tinubu is aware of public apprehension regarding any kind of military intervention and that ECOWAS is trying to maintain the sanctions and adhere to them strictly.
In addition, he expressed satisfaction that ECCAS agreed with ECOWAS on the matter, saying that ECOWAS “does not accept interference in democratic governance.”
