•Fresh moves to stop Atiku, others after Oct. 8 underway
•PDP hopeful Tony Nwoye will fly its flag for Anambra poll
“If the rebellious party men don’t fall in line on October 7, we will have no other choice but to expel them and if they continue to hoist the party’s flag anywhere, they will have to be arrested and dealt with lawfully.”
The above may as well be taken as the decision the mainstream PeoplesDemocratic Party (PDP) took at its caucus meeting while preparing for the October 7 peace dialogue with its breakaway faction – the New PDP.
Sunday Independent has been reliably told by one of the top notch of the party who is in a position to know, that after the October 7 meeting, if members of the breakaway faction who go by the name new PDP or authentic PDP, fail to fall in line, they will face mass expulsion while itsarrowhead risks arrest. This newspaper can confirm that the Bamanga Tukur-led PDP and the presidency are no longer ready to take lightly, the hoisting of the PDP’s flag anywhere under the of division.
“Anybody that talks about factionalised PDP will be arrested. We have given them enough opportunity to make amends. What they are doing is anti-party activities and they know it, including the consequences,” our source said during the week.
The source said despite the resolution of the last peace meeting where all sides were asked to sheathe their sword, members of the new PDP have refused to comply.
According to him, apart from the group’s outing at the National Assembly which almost degenerated into combat among members of the House of Representatives, the new PDP, especially Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, has not ceased to throw stones.
Amaechi, in the thinking of his detractors in PDP, committed an immortal sin against the President when he allegedly openly declared that President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration has failed the South-South region, the home base of the President.
On Amaechi’s suspension, the leadership of the PDP, it was gathered, insisted that the governor must have to withdraw the case he instituted in court challenging his expulsion before the party can lift his suspension.
But sources close to the governor said Amaechi is not going to withdraw any case in court because it was the PDP that suspended him first; meaning the party would have to lift its suspension on the governor before Amaechi withdraws any court case.
It has also emerged that the Tukur-led PDP has isolated the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the arrowhead of the anti-Jonathan campaign for 2015.
The presidency, it was revealed, had wanted to know the mastermind of the opposition against Jonathan’s 2015 bid. It became convinced following last week’s statement credited to the new PDP which they felt bore Atiku’s finger prints.
Sunday Independent source said Jonathan’s earlier remark in the United States where he said he was eligible to run in 2015 was the bait used in narrowing the search for those opposed to his candidacy.
It was also gathered that the presidency, knowing that Atiku is the fulcrum of its opposition, has begun plans to stop him from challenging Jonathan’s re-election plan.
The source who said Atiku already lost the opportunity to be President after failing to cease same when it was offered to him in 2003, said he cannot be President any more.
Meanwhile, we also have it on good authority that PDP is confident Tony Nwoye will finally emerge the party’s flag bearer in the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State.
Nwoye had lost to Nicholas Ukachukwu in the court whom the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has since recognised as the PDP candidate.
But a source close to both PDP power brokers and Nwoye said there are other court cases and that INEC is only waiting to act on the newest/latest court directive which our source said, will make it possible for Nwoye to fly the PDP flag in the election.
