The ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023, has taken a new turn as the court orders the summoning of key witnesses.
The court directed that the summons be publicized in reputable national newspapers and on social media to reach individuals required to testify. Notable figures include singer Azeez Fashola (Naira Marley), Samson Eletu (Sam Larry), Mohbad’s sister-in-law Karimot Ogunbayo, Boluwatife Adeyemo (Darosha), and Mohbad’s lawyer, Oluwasanmi Falade.
Additionally, nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who treated Mohbad, and driver Fidelis Esanbor, who transported him to the hospital, are also summoned.
Magistrate T.A. Sotobi approved the request from Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, for substituted service due to challenges in serving these witnesses directly.
The Aloba family’s legal team, led by Wahab Shittu (SAN), emphasized the need for these witnesses to shed light on critical details surrounding Mohbad’s death. They also sought to recall Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, and the investigating police officer, ASP Muhammad Yusuf, to address new developments and clarify statements regarding an alleged altercation at Mohbad’s home.
The case has been adjourned to allow time for issuing the witness summons and ensuring their court appearances.
Mohbad, a former Marlian Music artist, passed away at age 27 under controversial circumstances that have sparked widespread social media debates. He had left Naira Marley’s label in February 2022 after alleging multiple incidents of assault and threats to his life.
