Lagos State Government on Monday assured its residents that the recently inaugurated mobile courts were not meant to harass but would dispense justice in accordance with the dictates of the law and also have respect for fundamental human rights.

The state attorney general and commissioner for justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem who stated this while presenting five vans for the commencement of the court said the courts would dispense justice.

He explained that the need to deal with growing cases of traffic and environmental abuses in the state informed the establishment of the court.

Kazeem added that the introduction of the courts was one of the ways through which the present administration aim ed at broadening the pathway that guarantee citizens’ access to justice and at the same time ensure the preservation of civility in the society.

The commissioner said the constitutional rights of defendants, being innocent until proven guilty, would be respected and upheld.

According to him, the prosecution of defendants would be handled by lawyers in the ministry of justice.

He noted that he would directly supervise the operation of the prosecuting lawyers.
