An irate mob on Friday lynched and set ablaze a middle-aged woman for allegedly attempting to kidnap a baby
The incident occurred at Emir’s road, near Opo-Malu junction, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Eyewitnesses account indicated that the woman under the guise of helping the nursing mother who was alighting form a motorcycle hold the baby bolted away with the toddler in arms.
The mother of the baby raised the alarm which attracted passersby and neighbours who chased and caught up with the fleeing suspect.
The mob which descended on her stripped her naked and beat her mercilessly before setting her ablaze.
The incident was said to have resulted in pandemonium as panic-stricken residents, shop owners, commuters and pedestrians fled in different directions.
Police authorities in Kwara State confirmed the incident.
