Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has agreed to a new three-year contract with the Premier League club, putting an end to speculation about his future, according to widespread reports on Thursday.
The 42-year-old, who has been at the helm of the Gunners since 2019, had entered the final year of his previous contract after leading the team to two consecutive second-place finishes in the league.
Last month, Arteta urged patience regarding his contract situation, emphasizing that his attention had been on the transfer window.
The announcement of his new deal comes just ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League showdown against London rivals Tottenham on Sunday.
Since stepping into the managerial role at Arsenal, replacing Unai Emery after leaving a coaching position at Manchester City, Arteta—who is also a former Arsenal player—has won silverware and transformed the club into title contenders once again.
In his first season, he led Arsenal to an FA Cup victory. Over the past two seasons, they have finished as Premier League runners-up, engaging in thrilling title races with Manchester City.
Currently, Arsenal sits fourth in the table with two wins and a draw and is set to kick off their Champions League campaign next week against Atalanta.
