Despite crashing out of the UEFA Champions League and enduring a trophyless season, Arsenal have decided to retain Mikel Arteta as their manager.
According to a report by Daily Mail, via SPORTbible, the club’s hierarchy has no intention of parting ways with the Spanish coach, even after their 3-1 aggregate defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals.
Arteta’s side suffered a 2-1 loss at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, following their 1-0 defeat in the first leg. Goals from Fabian Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi gave PSG a commanding lead before Bukayo Saka netted a consolation goal for the Gunners late in the match.
The result ended Arsenal’s hopes of lifting any silverware this season. They are also out of the Premier League title race, with Liverpool already crowned champions.
Arteta, who took over the managerial role in 2019, has yet to guide Arsenal to a major title since winning the FA Cup in the 2019-20 season. Since then, the club has managed to secure two Community Shields, but have consistently fallen short in major competitions.
Despite the lack of top-tier success and a transfer spend exceeding £600 million—including a club-record £105 million for Declan Rice—the club board remains supportive of Arteta and sees no reason to dismiss him at this time.
