Soldiers of the caliphate in Algeria has defected from Alqaeda and pledged allegiance to ISIS.
Alqaeda’s regional commander in the Islamic Maghreb(AQIM) said in a statement released by Gouri Abdelmalek ,nom de guerre khaled Abu Suleimane the leader of the new movement on Sunday that they have split from Alqaeda citing”deviation from true path”
It is unclear what strategy or operational impact the new group will have in the region giving the ruthlessness of the IS since its breakaway from Alqaeda 2013, and declaration of an Islamic state in larger Syria and Iraq.
Algerian authorities are confident that the situation is under control tagging the new group as “noise makers” and are prepared to fight off any threat posed by a group which follows Mokhtar Belmokhtars group as the second Algerian jihadist unit to pledege supports to the IS.
