Revenue from the maritime sector can finance the nation’s 2015 budget, the Commandant, Nigeria Army School of Public Relations and Information (NASPRI) Col. John Agim, has said.

Agim opined thus during a two-day workshop organised by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for Maritime reporters in Lagos.
Agbim said: “It is estimated that 75% of shipping business that takes place in West Africa is done in Nigeria alone”.
“The sector has been estimated to be bigger in size than oil and gas. If properly harnessed, the industry experts say the sector has potential to realize more than 7 Trillion Naira annually,” he added.
He stressed that maritime industry is very crucial to the nation economy adding the industry was also the backbone of International Trade and the global economy.
