A man, Christopher David, has been arrested by the police in Delta after it was alleged that he had sold his baby girl to ritualists.
It was gathered that he traded his 5 month old daughter for N200,000.
The matter was reported to the police by the child’s mother, Florence, who said that her husband had given her a share of the money.
Florence David, Christopher’s wife, gave birth to a baby girl sometimes in October 2013, but the suspect hoodwinked her and handed the baby over to a woman identified as Grace (surname withheld) with the intention of taking care of her as a result of his poor condition of living.
DSP Celestina Kalu, Police spokesperson in the state, confirmed that the suspect is currently cooling off at the police cell in the state CID and would be charged to court upon completion of investigation. He added that investigation was still ongoing.
According to the mother of the victim and wife of the suspect who reported the matter to the police, the said Grace later sold the baby for N200,000 to a lady suspected to be a ritualist operating in Lagos in conspiracy with the husband.
