Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin has reignited her criticism of gospel singer Tope Alabi, revealing how her loyalty to Alabi influenced her decisions both personally and professionally over the years.
In a recently released video, Anjorin explained that her admiration for Tope Alabi led her to distance herself from fellow gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori. She clarified that her refusal to feature Alaseyori’s songs on her Instagram wasn’t due to dislike, but rather out of loyalty to Alabi.
“It’s because of Sis Tope that I never played Yinka Alaseyori’s songs on my page. I don’t hate Yinka, but I was just being loyal,” Anjorin stated.
Anjorin also shared how she declined an invitation to an award event in Canada simply because Yinka Alaseyori was set to perform, noting that she didn’t attend because Tope Alabi wasn’t the one performing.
“I was invited to an award ceremony in Canada, and Yinka was supposed to perform there. I didn’t go because it wasn’t Sis Tope who was singing,” she explained.
The actress further expressed her loyalty by recounting how she supported Tope Alabi during a controversy involving the singer, who faced criticism for allegedly excluding her daughter’s father from her wedding. Despite opposition from her team, Anjorin showed her support by playing one of Alabi’s songs.
Anjorin also referenced an email sent by a fan to Tope Alabi’s team in January, suggesting that the fan wanted to plan a birthday surprise for the singer due to Anjorin’s well-known admiration for her.
However, Lizzy expressed disappointment over what she perceives as Tope Alabi’s silence amid public mockery. “If not that Sis Tope is enjoying how people are mocking me that she disgraced me, she would have come out to speak. She humiliated me,” Anjorin said.
Additionally, Anjorin made controversial claims about Alabi’s early career, alleging that her gospel music origins were linked to traditional practices.
“I am even the one who shouldn’t want to associate with her because the foundation of her gospel music had to do with rituals. She started with a traditionalist who founded a church you all know. I didn’t carry rituals to become famous,” Anjorin alleged.
