Robert Lewandowski came back to haunt his former team in spectacular fashion on Wednesday night, scoring twice as Barcelona thrashed Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at Camp Nou.
Barcelona seized early momentum with 17-year-old Lamine Yamal playing a key role. The young winger tested the keeper early on and frequently linked up with Raphinha, causing constant problems for the German side’s defence.
The breakthrough came from a messy sequence in the box, as Pau Cubarsí’s effort was nudged over the line by Raphinha — a goal that stood after a prolonged VAR review.
While Serhou Guirassy and Karim Adeyemi offered brief sparks for Dortmund, they struggled to create clear chances, largely stifled by a solid Barcelona backline and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
Just minutes into the second half, Lewandowski extended the lead, nodding in a header after Raphinha redirected Yamal’s brilliant diagonal pass. The Polish striker struck again shortly after, calmly slotting home a third goal after a smooth build-up involving Fermín López and Yamal.
The fourth goal came late in the match, with Dortmund’s defence collapsing under pressure. Lewandowski’s high pressing forced a turnover, and he set up Raphinha, who assisted Yamal for a composed finish.
Hansi Flick’s team were dominant from start to finish — quicker, more organized, and tactically superior — leaving Edin Terzic’s Dortmund with a huge task ahead in the second leg in Germany.
With a commanding 4-0 advantage, Barcelona are firmly in control and on the brink of a semi-final berth.
