The Lagos State Parking Authority has revealed plans to begin paid parking on selected streets across Lagos.

The agency’s General Manager, Adebisi Adelabu, announced the development during a stakeholder meeting with Akeem Dauda and members of the local council management team.

According to a statement released by LASPA’s Head of Public Affairs, Dunkwu Divine, the new On-Street Parking Scheme will first be introduced through a pilot phase in selected local government areas, including Ikeja.

Adelabu explained that the project is designed to improve parking organization, ease traffic congestion, and create job opportunities for residents in the affected areas.

“The On-Street Parking Scheme will improve parking management, enhance traffic flow and generate employment opportunities, particularly for residents within the selected areas,” she said.

She also noted that parking management was previously handled by local government councils before it was transferred to LASPA by the Conference of the 57 Local Government Areas and LCDAs.

Adelabu added that councils supporting the initiative would also benefit from it and encouraged them to cooperate fully with the implementation process.

In his remarks, Dauda expressed support for the plan and called for stronger public sensitization to help residents understand the scheme before it officially begins.
