Lagos State is in mourning following the death of Chief Taoreed Faronbi, widely known as “Baba Alado,” who passed away at the age of 83 in the early hours of Saturday, September 26, 2026. A towering figure in the state’s political, social, and transport landscapes, his demise has drawn heartfelt tributes from across various sectors.
Baba Alado’s influence spanned decades, making him a revered personality, particularly within Mushin and broader Lagos communities. Until his death, he served as the Olori Ebi (Head) of the Alagbeji Royal Family in Papa Ajao, Mushin. He also held significant traditional and commercial titles, including the Akinrogun of Isolo Kingdom and Babaloja of Aswani International Market.
A Life of Influence and Community Engagement
Faronbi was a dominant force in Lagos grassroots politics, the vibrant real estate sector, and the crucial transport industry. His long-standing prominence led to him being regarded as a key leader within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), an organization central to the state’s daily operations.
The news of his death quickly prompted an outpouring of grief and respect from politicians, socialites, and transport stakeholders. Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, famously known as MC Oluomo and the National President of the NURTW, expressed profound sadness over the loss. “Baba Alado was a man who made his mark, and whose name will remain remembered by many,” MC Oluomo stated in an official release. “His contributions, relationships, and presence within the transport and community space will not be forgotten.”

His family announced his death on Saturday, and his remains were promptly buried according to Islamic rites.
