Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has suspended his Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, Wale Ajetunmobi, following his controversial remarks on social media. The suspension was announced by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, in a statement on Tuesday.
The suspension comes after Ajetunmobi made a statement on his personal “X” account, claiming that those responsible for burning a media outlet during the 2020 #EndSARS protests had been “hunted down and executed.” In the now-deleted post, Ajetunmobi wrote that “majority of them have been hunted down and executed” and shared further details of an incident involving a young boy allegedly found with an AK-47 at the scene.
When asked to clarify his comments, Ajetunmobi defended his statement, describing the incident as a confrontation between soldiers and arsonists, with fatalities resulting from the exchange of fire. He denied it being an extrajudicial killing.
In response, Akosile emphasized that Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration condemns any form of extrajudicial action, stating, “That is not who we are. That is not our way.”
