The Lagos State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has blasted Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his reaction to the United States naming Nigeria a “country of particular concern.”
According to the party, Obi only responded for political advantage rather than out of genuine patriotism or leadership.
APC Says Obi Spoke “Too Little, Too Late”
In a statement released by the spokesperson, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC argued that Obi’s delayed response showed it was motivated by public pressure, not sincerity.
Oladejo stated that “for a man always seeking microphones and hashtags, his sudden silence was deafening until well-meaning Nigerians questioned it.”
He went on to say that even after speaking, Obi’s remarks lacked urgency and unity, qualities expected of true national leadership.
Tinubu Addressing Insecurity with Real Solutions
The party insisted that insecurity existed long before President Bola Tinubu’s administration and that Tinubu is addressing it through structural reforms, modern military strategies, and international cooperation.
Oladejo also added that the president is tackling the economic causes of insecurity through key policy changes.
“Obi Must Choose Between Patriotism and Desperation”
The Lagos APC urged Obi to stop taking advantage of Nigeria’s challenges for political gain.
Oladejo said, “Real leaders defend their country in difficult moments. Obi seems to celebrate when Nigeria faces challenges.”
He also suggested that Obi’s behaviour shows “bitterness” over losing the 2023 election rather than genuine concern for the country.
“Nigeria Will Succeed Despite Naysayers”
The statement concluded by assuring citizens that Nigeria will continue to move forward under the Renewed Hope Agenda, encouraging people to stay positive and ignore those who want the country to fail.
“Nigeria will succeed despite those praying for its failure,” Oladejo added.
