According to a report, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), representing organized labor, announced a nationwide indefinite strike starting Monday, June 3rd, 2024.

This decision comes in response to the deadlock in discussions with the government over the minimum wage proposal and the recent controversial increase in electricity rates.

Sources indicate that the tripartite committee, comprising 37 members, made seven attempts to reach a consensus on a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers before negotiations collapsed on Friday.

During the Friday meeting, organized labor expressed frustration over the government’s lack of commitment and representation.

Earlier in the week, the Federal Government revised its proposal from N57,000 to N60,000. Despite organized labor lowering their demand from N497,000 to N494,000, they still rejected the government’s offer.
