Coach Jose Peseiro is hopeful that goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali will recover in time for Nigeria’s match against Angola on Friday, February 2 in the quarter-finals of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. During the Round of 16 game against Cameroon, Nwabali was stretched out after a collision with Cameroon winger, and he was replaced by Francis Uzoho, the known Super Eagles number one. Despite the uncertainty surrounding Nwabali’s injury, Peseiro remains optimistic about his return. “It’s difficult to assess his condition at the moment, but we will assess the state of Nwabali’s injury in the next 24 to 48 hours,” reported Completesports. Peseiro expressed his desire to have Nwabali back for the crucial match against Angola, saying, “I want him to play, and the players want him to play. We have 25 players here, and if he can’t play, we have a good replacement.” Nwabali has been in excellent form at the tournament, conceding just one goal in four games, making his potential absence a worry for the Super Eagles.
