President Jonathan’s  National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, has called on  the Independent National Electoral Commission to postpone the  forthcoming elections.

Dasuki made this call while speaking at a forum in London at Chatham House.

He noted that if the elections are postponed   Nigeria’s electoral body will have  room for  proper preparations and distribution of Permanent Voter Cards, PVC.

Dasuki said it will be advantageous if INEC postpones the election, adding “That is what we are encouraging at the moment.”

Meanwhile,  in its reaction to the statement credited to Dasuki, the opposition All Progressives Congress said the PDP is making this call because it is scared of defeat.
Excerpts from the  statement by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary  said “Now that we have found the smoking gun, we are urging the international community, in particular, to urgently extract a commitment from President Goodluck Jonathan that the elections will hold as scheduled next month, and that he would respect the outcome, just as we have said.”
