Former military Head of State and Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), has described the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan as lawless.
Buhari called on Nigerians to join the APC in its campaign to recover the country.
Buhari, who spoke at the Save Rivers Movement Sensitisation rally in Port Harcourt yesterday, also commended Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for his steadfastness even in the face of persecution by Federal Government over his beliefs.
Buhari said the APC would do everything constitutionally possible to ensure that the 2015 elections are credible, emphasising the need for Nigeria to overcome her current challenges as one country.
“APC is about securing Nigeria and managing it efficiently. How are we going to do it? The way we are going to do it is why we got the oppositions parties with representation in the states and the National Assembly.
“With that we believe that the question of winning the election in 2015 is a foregone conclusion. We are particularly grateful and impressed by your governor for his single mindedness and his capacity to identify what is good for his people and for the country. We thank him very much.
“A lot of you here were not born when our leaders thought that the fundamental thing is one Nigeria. In spite of our differences – ethnic and religious, we’ve found ourselves as one people. Our country, with tremendous resources and talented people, but we the people have managed or mismanaged to organise ourselves so that we can use them wisely for this country.
“APC, as I said, is about securing and efficiently managing Nigeria. I want you to believe and participate fully because this effort we are making is for you because no matter how much we love this world or the office. We have only five and ten years to go, you better realise it and accept it and work for a strong Nigeria.
“I thank Bola Tinubu for his single mindedness and the chairman, (Bisi) Akande, for his experience and personal integrity to help to get this party firmly on the ground. We in this party will do everything constitutional to make sure that the 2015 election is credible.”
Addressing the rally, Amaechi challenged the Federal Government to an open debate over alleged unfair treatment of the state by the Jonathan administration.
Amaechi declared that he would not support President Jonathan for a re-election as long as he continues to short-change Rivers State for another state, saying he would not sacrifice Rivers for the interest of a South-South President, who does not favour the state.
Amaechi who said another 41 oil wells belonging to the state in Etche area had been ceded to neighbouring Abia State by the Federal Government, also alleged that the level of corruption in the current federal administration was unprecedented in the history of Nigeria.
He also said the Federal Government had elected to devote anti-graft agencies again the state while it looked the other way in the cases of its own agencies that should be investigated for corruption.
The event was also attended by Senator Bola Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande, Chief Tom Ikimi, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, members of the National Assembly and other APC leaders at both the state and national levels.
