
Senator Hope Uzodimma representing Imo West Senatorial District has said that the Presidential System of Government which Nigeria practices allows a sitting president to seek second term in office qualifying President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 election.
The Senator disclosed this with journalists at the Sam Mbakwe Airport Owerri recently following the agitation by some Nigerians that President Jonathan should not seek a second term in office.
According to him, the present system of governance which is synonymous to the American’s “If we have copied the Presidential System of Government from the USA, why then can’t we practice its tenets to the latter? From the history of all American Presidents none of them did only one term in office. President Goodluck Jonathan therefore is covered by that system of government to seek second term”, he said.
Reacting to the state of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Uzodimma said that the state was mobilized now more than ever before to give the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a clean sweep at the 2015 general polls.
“We are now fully mobilized. We are ready to double the 1.3 million votes the president got from the state in 2011, when he contests in 2015 because PDP in the state is now fully mobilized and ready to take its right place”, he said.
Uzodimma who is the Chairman of the organizing committee of the PDP Unity Rally which held in Imo State last weekend, expressed delight at the huge turnout and attributed it to the meticulous planning strategy and sleepless nights the committee members had to undergo to achieve success.
