An anonymous tipster has confided in online news website SaharaReporters that Festus Iyayi, a former president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), was actually shot by policemen in the convoy of the Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada, prior to the road accident in which he supposedly died last week.
The source claimed that the injuries found on the late writer’s chest were consistent with gunshot injuries and that a bullet did pierce his heart.
One Dr. Paul Amodu of the Specialist Hospital in Lokoja had revealed that Professor Iyayi died after “something” pierced his chest, but he didn’t specify what it was.
It can be recalled that it was revealed last week said the popular professor and writer died in a collision with a security vehicle in Governor Wada’s convoy.
Sources at ASUU said they had dissuaded Iyayi’s family from a “rushed” burial, as they suspected foul play. One of the sources recalled that another former president of ASUU, Dr. Mahmood Tukur, also died in suspicious circumstances on the Kaduna-Zaria highway, with the police claiming he died of an asthma attack because he ate pepper which, they claimed, triggered it.
Our source spoke with Prof. Iyayi’s son, Omole, regarding the latest information, but he said the family was unaware, and that they do not even have the autopsy performed yet.
A press statement issued by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA)signed by its President Osahom Enabulele has previously called for a special inquiry into Professor Iyayi’s death but the statement didn’t say if the doctors found that Iyayi may been shot as alleged by the anonymous source.

be careful what you report here…such issues are very delicate and shouldnt be played with in this manner….what do you intend to achieve with a blackmailing report like this…besides you were not there and you didnt witness the accident so why listen to a low life with untamed tongues…be careful and warn yourself
Uzor, I want to believe that you are a learned person, not being there does not mean that investigation cannot be made, so why are you talking as if if this media has done something that is so bad?
Lamina Adam Adelani …such issues should be handled with caution my dear friend besides what does wada stand to gain from assassinating iyayi…food for thought and why would the supposed assassination be carried out by the police men in wadas convoy and do you think if that piece of information was true that there wouldn't have been a spark by asuu and iyayis family by now and if it is true as claimed by the evil tipster let them insist on carrying out an autopsy on the late profs remains to ascertain the actual cause of his death before rumoring such misleading information….clarify issues before you post them to the world, false information like this spread like wild fire, assuming gov. wada was your father maybe you will have a different opinion about this…..think man….warn yourself
Either by gun shot or not, the man is no more and the cause of his dead is attached to the Governor. Then what are we saying?
