Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has responded fiercely to Tanzanian media figure Mange Kimambi, who recently advised her daughter, Priscilla Ojo, and son-in-law, Juma Jux, to reduce their presence on social media.
Earlier, Naijalog had reported that Kimambi took to Instagram, urging the newlyweds to remain discreet online for five months in light of Tanzania’s tense political climate. The activist warned that their posts could potentially heighten national unrest.
However, Iyabo Ojo took to Instagram to express her anger over the public statement. In a strongly-worded post, she criticized Kimambi for what she described as an inappropriate and overreaching warning.
Iyabo clarified that Priscilla’s family financed the lavish wedding festivities and not the Tanzanian government, as speculated. She also defended her daughter’s independence and values, stating that she had raised her to be bold and genuine.
Her post reads, “I’m appalled by your audacity! Referring to my daughter and her husband in such a manner, calling their content stupīd, and trying to drum fear and intimidation is unacceptable. As a parent, I’ve taught her to be confident and authentic”.
“Regarding the wedding rumours, it’s not your government that gave us money; it’s a cultural tradition in my family”.
“I’m an activist, and as one, I stand by my principles and fight for what I believe in, without insulting anyone or targeting anyone. True leadership requires presence and courage”.
“Keep my daughter out of your affairs. She’ll post what she likes, when, and how she likes. She doesn’t need you to love her. She is very loved and well-loved,*We protect our own. Never forget that”.
