Businessman Isaac Fayose has ignited a fresh debate within Nigerian political circles, asserting that no Igbo political figure since the late Biafran warlord Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu has matched the political achievements of Peter Obi. Fayose made these potent remarks in a video shared on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, October 7.
In his strongly worded address, Fayose expressed unwavering confidence in Obi’s prospects for the 2027 general election, declaring that victory would be secured regardless of the extent of support he receives from the Igbo community. “Any Igbo man supporting this APC government is a wicked Igbo man,” Fayose stated emphatically.
He continued, drawing a direct parallel between Obi and the revered Ojukwu. “When it comes to politics in Igbo land, in the last 40 years, apart from late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, no other Igbo man has done what Peter Obi has done.” This comparison underscores what Fayose perceives as Obi’s unique and significant impact on the political landscape of the South-East region.
Fayose did not mince words when addressing those who might not align with Obi’s political ambitions. “Any Igbo man that does not support Peter Obi is a wicked and jealous Igbo man,” he declared, reiterating his firm belief that Obi’s triumph is inevitable. “You all should know that with or without you, Obi will still win come January 2027,” he confidently predicted.
Fayose’s controversial statements are likely to stir considerable discussion, particularly within Igboland, concerning political loyalty, regional influence, and the ongoing build-up to the next presidential election. His assertion highlights the intense passion and high stakes involved in Nigerian politics, especially when discussing figures like Peter Obi who command a significant following.
