Six wins out of the maximum six during the pre-season campaign against top notch oppositions, and we all thought that Manchester United (unarguably the most successful team in the English Premier League, having won 20 premier league titles, a joint record 11 FA Cups, fourLeague Cups, and a record twenty FA Community Shields ), who were humiliated last season had gotten their invincibility and groove back.
But yesterday as they opened their 2014-2015 campaign under the tutelage of their new no-nonsense manager, Louis Van Gaal, with a new 3-4-1-2 formation, they suffered their first loss of the season in an opening day loss.
What has made this loss a bitter pill to swallow is the sheer fact that this is the first time the Red Devils are losing their league opener in 24 years and Swansea the team they lost to has never beaten them in top flight competitive soccer before (both home and away).
Granted Louis Van Gaal who fielded a relatively new team had made everyone realize that despite the preseason routing of big teams, he was not promising magic, but a decent campaign.
But with this loss in the hands of Swansea a team not reputed as a force in English football, fans and critics, though too early, are beginning to wonder, is this the beginning of another disastrous campaign for Manchester United, who won 20 premiership titles in 22 years, finishing second at other times under the watch of Sir Alex.
