Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has been prohibited from further destroying buildings and other properties in the state by the Federal High Court in Kano.
Following an ex parte motion presented before him by a lawyer and Kano native named Saminu Muhammad, Justice S.A. Amobeda issued the ruling, according to The Punch.
The court specifically halted the governor and his agents from carrying out the planned destruction along BUK Road, including homes on Nos. 41 and 43 Salanta, according to a report from Channels TV. The court’s ruling was handed down on Friday, June 22.
In response to the occurrence, Sanusi Balarabe, a fervent supporter of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano, bemoaned the Yusuf government’s continuous demolition of houses, calling the action excessive and uncalled for, according to The Guardian.
“In all honesty, none of us voted for the government knowing it will carry out these demolitions.
“It is wastage to demolish properties indiscriminately and therefore outright unreasonable and condemnable,” Balarabe, leader of the Mu Hadu Mu Gyara group said in Hausa in a viral YouTube video.”
He regretted that all the shops being demolished belonged to Kano traders and not foreigners.
