Godswill Akpabio has linked the recent rise in insecurity across the country to activities surrounding the upcoming 2027 elections.
He made this statement on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, during the inauguration of the Nigerian Revenue Service Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, where Bola Ahmed Tinubu was also present.
According to Akpabio, the administration is performing well, and those opposed to it are allegedly fueling insecurity due to a lack of direction.
“Insecurity is increasing because election is coming, because people don’t know what to do again. Immediately after election, two weeks after election, the insecurity will stop. The insecurity is being sponsored by people,” he said.
He also criticised the opposition, suggesting they are disorganised, while taking a swipe at Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.
“Opposition is in disarray, someone got six million votes and abandoned the party, abandoned the six million votes and went shopping for another platform and they are blaming the ruling party,” he said.
Akpabio urged Nigerians to remain patient with the current administration, expressing confidence in its direction.
“Let Nigerians be patient with you, you are doing the right thing,” he added.
He further praised Zacch Adedeji, describing him as a tax administrator widely accepted by Nigerians.
“Even in the Bible people don’t like tax collectors. Zacch has done very well and Nigerians are happy with him.”
Other top government officials at the event included Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.
