Independent National Electoral Commission has updated its official records to restore David Mark as National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, along with other members of the party’s National Working Committee.

Checks on the INEC website showed that the ADC leadership list now names Mark as chairman and former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary.

Other officials reinstated include Dr. Mani Ahmad as National Treasurer, Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary, and Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor as National Legal Adviser.

The commission had earlier removed their names from its portal in April following a directive from the Court of Appeal, a decision that triggered protests from the Mark-led faction and opposition supporters.

However, a Supreme Court judgment delivered on Thursday nullified the Court of Appeal order. The apex court ruled that the directive to maintain the status quo ante bellum could no longer stand after the relevant proceedings had been concluded, describing its continuation as unnecessary and legally unsustainable.

The court also granted the appeal filed by the Mark-led faction and directed that the substantive suit instituted by aggrieved party chieftain Nafiu Bala Gombe at the Federal High Court should proceed quickly on its merits.
